By Jordan Levine and Kevin Lahey | Published July 25 , 2024

When construction projects suffer a claimed interruption, we can help. RMC Group is pleased to announce the formation of our Builders’ Risk team, led by our Director of the West Region, Nicole Gust. Builders’ Risk claims are nothing new to RMC Group. The decision to highlight and combine our consultants with expertise on a specialty team was born from a surging demand from clients seeking expert guidance in navigating the complexities of Builders' Risk claims.

Much like the success of our Complex Consulting team evolution, we have hand-picked the members who will lead the way on this unique Builders’ Risk team. With a rich background in large-scale, complex new construction and renovation projects, our members possess a profound understanding of the nuances of construction projects. This focused group promises clients a roster of qualified professionals dedicated to deciphering the unique demands of Builders' Risk claims.

Drawing Strength from Past Victories

  1. The successful settlement of many significant Builders’ Risk claims, RMC Group, brings a wealth of experience to the table.
  2. Intimate knowledge of project schedules and the use of scheduling programs help validate applicable delays versus prior and/or unrelated delays.
  3. We stand ready to address the ripple effects of schedule delays head-on.
  4. Whether it's creating alternative approaches to recoup lost time or mitigating financial repercussions, we leave no stone unturned.

Our team's expertise extends beyond mere familiarity; it offers a unique perspective, delving deep into all the moving pieces of general contractor dynamics and project structures. From dissecting soft costs to scrutinizing contract language and terms, our focus extends beyond the surface, seeking hidden or untapped information.

Six Steps to Resolution

  1. Original Claim Information - Apply a minimum of 15 possible known factors from claim data provided.
  2. RFI’s - With a minimum 10-point rubric, analyze RFI’s to determine the impact of the loss on the project’s completion schedule.
  3. Site Inspection/s - Utilize a minimum 12-point model to gather data at the site to be applied later for analysis and to thoroughly document our inspection.
  4. General Requirements – Research general requirements as defined in the original contract to determine exactly what applies toward the claimed scope of work.
  5. Analysis – Apply 8-point criteria to define an accurate Scope of Work.
  6. Conclusions & Recommendations – Prepare reporting, estimating, and timeline determination. Present Cost-to-Value alternatives, e.g. Project Acceleration.

In our quest to be leaders in the industry of construction consulting, we draw on decades of industry experience as former contractors, project managers, and superintendents on thousands of projects. Our team also has years of field experience as adjusters and consultants handling these claims. With our clients, RMC Group’s Builders’ Risk team is focused on accurate and defensible outcomes on Builders’ Risk claims.
